Country trail 7 - The gravel pit

Here at the entrance to the hills of Jordløse Bakker (Søbo Løkker) is an old gravel pit, which was then owned by Jordløse Bymænd, a guild of local investors. According to old accounts, the Søbo estate paid 9.50 Danish crowns a year for access to the gravel pit.

The hills of Jordløse Bakker are the result of extensive gravel and sand movements during the last ice age. The soil has little nutrient content, producing a rather unusual and diverse flora. One of the plants you can find is the rare and beautiful Anemone pratensis on the south-facing slopes.
