The cows in our fields are Scottish Highland cattle. These are a calm but robust breed who are well suited to natural grazing.

The section of the Jordløse trail west of Haastrupvej uses our fields. We think we live in a beautiful spot and we are happy to share. Go for a wander yourself. Look, listen, experience and enjoy!
Risbjerg Agriculture has been organic since 2007. Organic agriculture means that we use no pesticides or artificial fertilisers. We use old-fashioned techniques such as seed rotation and soil treatments as we endeavour to produce crops that are so robust that they need no help to make them grow. We do use any new technologies that can help us to achieve this, however.
We think this is the right way to produce animal feed and food for human consumption. Our crop fertiliser comes from our livestock and catch crops. Catch crops absorb nitrogen from the air and retain it in the soil so it is not flushed away by rainfall.

Our aim is that the area around Gisselhøj should become part of our forest farming, with strips of trees planted in the fields and crops sown between the rows of trees. Trees bind CO2 from the air and store it for long periods of time, which allows them to become part of a solution that helps to reduce the environmental impact of agriculture.
Another advantage of planting trees is that the soil becomes more robust and better able to withstand extreme weather conditions, from drought to inclement. Trees are also an important habitat for birds and insects.

In our fields, we grow feed that we give to our livestock, but we also grow crops that we sell. Risbjerg Agriculture also keeps organic sows, who roam outside all year round. We also produce organic pigs for meat. Some of them spend their entire lives on grass. During your trip, you may also meet the cattle who “tend” our meadows.

Lilac originates from the Balkans and Asia Minor. It was introduced to Denmark as a decorative plant and has since grown wild. It is now found all over Denmark, in both gardens and hedgerows. Lilac is characteristic to the cultural-historical landscape of Southern and Western Funen where it was first planted around 1800. The flowers attract pollinating insects and their seeds are eaten by small birds.
